The first "SDIR Scientific Days" meeting was held on September 20, 2022, at the State University in Novi Pazar, Serbia, facilitated through a video link. This initiative, introduced by the SDIR Executive Committee, is intended to become a regular event that showcases SDIR activities and promotes collaboration among cancer research centers across Serbia. The meeting was a resounding success, generating significant interest among members in various Serbian cities for the upcoming 2023 meeting. The event, coupled with direct communication between the SDIR Committee and researchers, resulted in a rise in new membership applications and encouraged active engagement in the future expansion of SDIR.
The first session of "SDIR Scientific Days" commenced with a presentation outlining new activities and initiatives of SDIR, alongside the EACR's mission to support national member societies, as highlighted by the newly elected president of EACR, Professor Yardena Samuels. Subsequently, Professors Tanja Soldatović, Nataša Đorđević, and Milan Dekić from the State University in Novi Pazar showcased their ongoing scientific research projects. In the second segment of the event, members of the SDIR Executive Committee were introduced to the personnel and infrastructure available for cancer research at the State University in Novi Pazar. This introduction included discussions on their research capabilities, scientific interests, and various forms of collaboration with other cancer research institutes and laboratories in Serbia. It is expected that tangible plans for increased participation from both new and established SDIR members will begin to show results in 2023, when the traditional scientific congress SDIR-6 is also anticipated.
