ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION

Serbian Association for Cancer Research (SDIR) was founded in November 2010 in Belgrade, and today has more than 200 members. The seat of the association is at the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, Pasterova 14, Belgrade. The Serbian Association for Cancer Research (SDIR) is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing goals in the field of oncology.

The main goals of the association are:

1. improving conditions for cancer research,
2. structuring opportunities for society members’ professional development at domestic and international institutions,
3. organizing scientific and professional meetings for the exchange of the most recent advances in the field of oncology.

SDIR strives to provide better conditions for the cooperation of our members with related domestic and international associations. Traditionally, SDIR cooperates with sister associations – national societies of cancer researchers under the auspices of EACR (European Association for Cancer Research) in Croatia and Turkey, whose members regularly participate in SDIR congresses as invited lecturers and members of the Congress Scientific Committee. Additionally, SDIR members are frequently invited to attend congresses hosted by Turkish and Croatian colleagues. In early September 2022, at the behest of the association 's president, SDIR entered into agreements for amicable collaboration with several local organizations, including BDS (Biochemical Society of Serbia), MolBioS (Serbian Society for Molecular Biology), and UMOS (Association of Medical Oncologists of Serbia). This initiative is expected to create new opportunities for the members of SDIR. SDIR is committed to enhancing the collaboration and promoting dialogue among professionals in oncology and cancer research, while also fostering the integration of young researchers in the field. For this purpose, we created an expert database that can only be accessed by SDIR members and a database of our members' projects. SDIR is one of the 14 national associations affiliated with EACR. Our association has been part of a large European family of cancer researchers since 2011. A form of collaboration between SDIR and EACR is evident in their assistance with the organization of all prior congresses of the association in the form of lectures delivered by esteemed scientists under the auspices of EACR, as well as the customary EACR awards recognizing the best poster presentations. By becoming a member of the SDIR, you automatically gain full membership in the EACR, which offers a variety of benefits to its members.
