The Serbian Association for Cancer Research (SDIR) was delighted to once again take part in Science Day, held on July 11, 2026, at the Jevremovac Botanical Garden in Belgrade. The event was organized by the Student Center for Scientific Research of the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade (CNIRS BFUB). Serbia's National Science Day is traditionally celebrated on the anniversary of the birth of the renowned scientist and inventor Nikola Tesla.
At the SDIR exhibition booth, visitors had the opportunity to learn about ongoing scientific research and international projects led by our members, as well as to engage in discussions with researchers about contemporary approaches to cancer research.
Our youngest visitors enjoyed a variety of interactive educational activities, including learning basic pipetting techniques, assembling a model of the human body, building models of Chemical compounds, exploring the role and significance of extracellular vesicles, observing cells under a microscope, and discovering how researchers culture cells in the laboratory. They also participated in many other engaging hands-on activities. One of the most popular attractions was a nutrition-themed educational challenge, in which participants were invited to create a balanced healthy meal from a selection of food items. Those who successfully completed the challenge received symbolic prizes.
We are especially proud that this year's program featured presentations of ten research projects led by SDIR members. Project coordinators and team members introduced the following projects: LiveRNA, ADVANCED, RadExIORSBoost, AID, DAADRAC, PhotoSCLART, BioengineeredTumor, ReBone, Expand-EV, and Rescale-EV.
The great interest shown by visitors of all ages once again highlighted the importance of bringing science closer to the public and fostering direct interaction between researchers and the community.
We sincerely thank the organizers for hosting another successful Science Day and all SDIR members whose enthusiasm and dedication contributed to the successful promotion of cancer research and scientific excellence.
